Summer in the City

Summer in the City
To give you something extra magical during your day, we bring you ‘Poetry gifts’. In just a few minutes, our expert poets will craft you a beautiful poem around the theme of ‘Summer in the city', these poets will include any information you want to ensure that this poem is personal to you. These poems are entirely free and require no obligation of any kind other than that you enjoy the rest of your day. If you fancy yourself a wordsmith, you can join us in our community poem. A poem created by the passersby, a few lines, a word, or a whole stanza, the pad is yours. This week we shall be hosting live poetry performances throughout the day. Incredibly talented local poets shall be reading the collection of personalised poems that has been gathered over the last three weeks as well as reading from their own collection of work.

This Thursday is set to be one of the best Slam Dunks yet. If you know someone who hasn't been before then this is the perfect time to bring them along. Now the summer hols are here we can dedicate our time, pulling all the stops out. You snooze you lose. Come and join the sensation that is Slam Dunk Poetry. This Thursday (27th) from 7.30 to 10pm @ The Printworks, Hastings £5 or £3 for slammers. If you want to sign up for the slam bring two original poems of no longer than three minutes each. You can put your name down on the door (before 7.30) and we will draw the names from a hat. If your name is drawn then you will join the slam and can get £2 back on your ticket in the interval. Our Headliners will be the ever popular Dillon Jaxx and the wonderfully funny and thought provoking Penny Pepper (appearing on Woman's hour and Newsnight). As always the event will be hosted by the wildly enthusiastic Lucas Howard (AKA me) and attended the friendliest and most raucous poetry crowd I think I may have ever witnessed (AKA you). Summer in the City
Wise Words are working in collaboration with Whitefriars Shopping Centre to bring poetry to Canterbury’s city centre. In the heart of Whitefriar’s shopping district, amongst the hustle and bustle of city life is an oasis of relaxation. Here you find shops, sheds, and stalls tailored to help you unwind and enjoy your break from work with a glass of something magical and a well-earned lunch. Our lovely poets, inspired by your thoughts about 'summer in the city' will write a poem just for you and offer it as a gift for you to take away.
